The Problem
The process of choosing text recipients is hard for users to navigate.
Markit allows users to filter text recipients based on events they attended, information they filled out prior to getting a ticket, text lists they belong to, and more. While this list of filters is certainly comprehensive, the sheer variety of filtering options makes this process overly complicated for users. As demonstrated in the 6 usability tests I ran while designing this feature, many users were unable to navigate this feature at all.

Iterate, Iterate, Iterate
I came up with over 6 iterations of the design, testing various layouts and UI styles that would make the text recipient selection process easier for users.

Getting Inspired
I was inspired by the browse and search pages of Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram, and iMessage.

The Solution
Organize text recipients into distinct, browsable categories.
My final solution to this issue was to allow users to browse recipients by followers, events, existing text lists, and data collected from events. This way, they can easily browse by their preferred category instead of being overwhelmed with all the options at once. I also made a separate design for brand new users who don't have any followers, events, lists, or data to browse by; they will be prompted to connect their contacts and build their audience instead.
